Prism, a concert performance for your community
(90-110 minutes, all ages)

This athletic, fun performance is composed of recent works by the six-member company. Artistic Director Susan Rieger, serves as a tour guide, introducing the audience to contemporary dance. The current repertory includes: Resilience, an athletic quintet to traditional Balinese music; The Gleaners, which begins with the famous tableaux of three women in a field, based on the painting by Millet; and Interior Landscapes, seven short dance segments accompanied by digital images by Andrea Fuhrman, which traverse emotions of contentment to anger.

The Two Faces of the Wind
(50 min., preschool to elementary school)

This colorful, kinetic performance depicts the beneficial and destructive capacities of the wind and the company has versions available for preschoolers through middle school students. This performance brings together dance and science standards to increase understanding about why we have wind; how wind is measured (the Beaufort scale), tornadoes and how wind is converted into electricity.

Inside Dance
(50 minutes, upper elementary-high school)

This lecture/demonstration introduces students to a brief history of dance, the world of dance training, and how choreographers make choices to communicate through movement. This program emphasizes critical thinking, and a keen eye to view and describe dance.

In the Moment
(50 minutes, middle/high school)

This performance features improvisational dance to demonstrate creative thinking, risk-taking, and problem-solving. It also highlights concepts which cross all arts disciplines, such as structure, composition, repetition, contrast and rhythm.

Workshops for seniors, community groups or classrooms
(45min-1 ½ hour)

The 940 Dance Company will use its many years of experience in the classroom (and community) to have students working in solos, duets and ensembles to demonstrate their understanding of the topic. Workshops on wind can be paired with the Two Faces of the Wind performance in order to have a deeper learning experience.
